Facebook Beacons
As the mechanical and industrial design leader who developed Facebook Beacons, Caitlin spearheaded the design of a product that seamlessly integrates digital experiences into physical spaces, enhancing the way businesses interact with their customers. Facebook Beacons are small, Bluetooth-enabled devices designed to bridge the gap between in-person visits and online engagement.

Installed in physical business locations, these beacons interact with visitors’ smartphones through the Facebook app, offering features like Place Tips. This allows businesses to share real-time information, promotions, and personalized content directly to customers’ devices when they enter the store. By providing details like a welcome message, event updates, or product recommendations, Facebook Beacons give businesses the ability to enhance their customers’ experience and boost in-store engagement.
Enhancing In-Store Engagement
Our focus in designing Facebook Beacons was to make them intuitive and non-intrusive, allowing businesses to harness the power of social media engagement without requiring customers to download new apps or change their behavior. This product simplifies the process for brick-and-mortar businesses to connect with their audience in an era where digital and physical interactions are increasingly intertwined.
