Mac Pro
As the technical lead for the cylindrical Mac Pro, Caitlin Kalinowski led a team that redefined what a high-performance workstation could be.
Released in December 2013, this second-generation Mac Pro was a radical departure from traditional desktop computers, both in design and performance. By integrating up to a 12-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, dual AMD FirePro D-series GPUs, and cutting-edge PCIe-based flash storage, Caitlin's team delivered a system with twice the performance of its predecessor, positioning it as a powerhouse for professionals requiring extreme computing power.
Innovative Design
The cylindrical design, a hallmark of Caitlin’s leadership, dramatically reduced the Mac Pro’s physical footprint to one-eighth the size of the previous model. This compact form factor wasn’t just a feat of engineering aesthetics; it optimized the thermal core for greater efficiency and allowed for unparalleled performance within a smaller, more energy-efficient frame. Additionally, the Mac Pro introduced support for six Thunderbolt displays via Thunderbolt 2 ports, alongside an HDMI port and updated wireless connectivity, making it a top choice for video editors, animators, and music producers who relied on multi-screen setups and robust processing power.
